Nature is the inspiration this season. Whether testing your powers of observation for patterns, observing bees or other living creatures, or just looking at elements of nature like water, rocks and rust, it’s all about nature.

Patterns in Nature

Test your powers of observation for patterns in nature. First, host Julie Fei Fan Balzer presents a new stenciling technique using ink pads featuring an image of nature. Then Joe Rotella has foil flowers that are made realistic by the patterns within the petals. Next, Cat Kerr designs a patterned bracelet using modeling material. Finally meet Tori Weyers, our resident artist. She'll be back every other week bringing the outside in as inspiration for your sketchbook. There will be 7 lessons beginning with "look closely." You can find beautiful colors, textures and shapes in objects from nature if you slow down and look closely.
Stones and Rocks

Explore stones and rocks in many different forms. First is Joe Rotella and a marble pour technique that has fascinating results when you add stones. Then meet Erin Gerlach for interesting patterns and designs on cabinet doors using natural materials. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer finishes with a notebook cover featuring a stone design stencil.
Nature's Elements

Nature's elements include those that are growing and those that result from being exposed to nature. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer begins with paint blob flowers, a fun and easy way to create flowers with a minimum of drawing. Then Alexandra Stapleton creates a card using a stamped, cut out of a floral image. Seth Apter creates a rust monoprint; the weathered look shows the effects of nature. Finally, Tori Weyers has lesson 2 and left handed flowers. Use your non dominant hand and watercolors to expand your sketchbook.

Nature is all encompassing from animals to insects, plants and seasons, and weather and rocks. First host Julie Fei Fan Balzer shows a new way to screen print right at home and make a flying pig stuffed toy. Then Joe Rotella shows how to make a wood honeycomb niche wall shelf. Nature's patterns are reproduced in your home. Finally, it's another lesson with Tori Weyers entitled the color of seasons, and how to create color palettes using the seasons where you live.
Passage of Time

Seasons, tides, day to night; all of these elements of time are a part of nature. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer has the first project. It is a cut away bag made with cork. Then Dina Wakley makes time for her artful pursuits, and finally it's the passage of time as Lynn Lilly celebrates a birthday party with a hot air balloon theme.

Living creatures are all around us in nature. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer begins with paper beetles; a fun and easy project drawing project. Then Cheryl Holz has a dragonfly portrait made with transparent overlays. Next Cat Kerr has a wall hanging made from an embroidery hoop featuring pigs. We finish with a nature inspired doodling meditation from Tori Weyers.

Nature is a cycle of growth, and change. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer begins with stenciled tiles that have infinite variations. Then Sandra Evertson has a box that mimics the effect of aging with a Verdigris finish. Aging happens to the best of us, so why not celebrate with a reusable birthday banner with Emily Thompson.
Look Outside

Take a look outside, maybe from the door or a window and observe what's going on. That's exactly what Joe Rotella did and he learned a lot about mason bees, he shares that knowledge and a mason bee house project. Then Dina Wakley observes a moment in time thru a window in a segment filmed earlier. Finally, its sticks and stones with Tori Weyers and mark making and inspiration using natural objects.
Variations of Nature

It is hard to pin down one definition of nature, so today is all different variations. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer begins with creating your own stencils to make cookies with a nature theme. Then meet Mary Hettmansperger for a 3D wire sculpture featuring salvaged wire that has been naturally treated. Then Joe Rotella continues his love of bees with a honey bee screen print with incredible detail.
Nature Look-alikes

This season is all about nature and today we feature some nature look-alikes or items that might appear at first glance to be from nature. Host Julie Fei Fan Balzer begins with faux cyanotypes – no sun required! Then Cat Kerr creates a journal cover; look closely as nature peeks thru. Then its more windows but this time its faux stained glass from Karenliz Henderson. Finally, visit the lakes and streams in your sketchbook with Tori Weyers. Blues and greens evoke memories of water and calm.

Weather affects our mood, and the only thing constant about it is change! Not only does it change by season but day to day and sometimes multiple times in one day. First, host Julie Fei Fan Balzer celebrates the weather with a bullet journal with a place to remember the weather. Then create dimensional snowflakes with Gail Wild. Finally, Lynn Lilly is back with a weather family photo board to let everyone know just what to expect each day!
Plants

Plant life is a key element of the world around us and one we bring indoors too. Today's show starts with host Julie Fei Fan Balzer and a short tutorial about shades of green, a featured color of plants. Then, Cat Kerr creates a unique art piece featuring a face that is highlighted by flowers. Next, Lynne Suprock creates a honey comb pot to hold your treasured plants. We finish with a sketchbook lesson with Tori Weyers and seeds and pods; they hold the potential to be new plant life and can be a source of inspiration.
Natural Mementos

Preserve the elements of nature you find inspiring in mementos especially cards. You'll have them to look at and enjoy long after the event is over. He's known for his engineering of these fun cards and it features his favorite a bee! Finally, enjoy the symmetry of nature with stamps in a beautiful card with Alexandra Stapleton.

How do I know what the Class covers?
Every Class has a free Preview video you can watch, to give you a flavor of the Instructor and the skills or project that will be covered. In addition, the Overview tab includes a thorough written description of the Class. And finally, each Class Session has a brief written summary of the content in that Session, including the length of each Session video. You will get a good feel for the Class content by reviewing these resources.
Do I have to be a Member of Artist's Academy to purchase a Class?
No you don’t. While Premium Members will receive regular offers for special deals on Artist's Academy content, Classes are not reserved exclusively for Members. If you buy a Class as a non-member, we’re sure you’d also enjoy having access to our full library of great cake decorating ideas and articles as a Member, so give it a try.
How do I purchase a Class?
First you should decide that the Class is what you want. Review the Class Preview video and the various written descriptions of the Class and each Session before you purchase, so you have a good understanding of the Class content. When you’re ready to purchase and gain access to the Class, simply click the “Add to Cart” button, and proceed through the Checkout process.
How do I access/view my Class?
Once you’ve paid, you can access/view your Class by going to the MY ACCOUNT section of Artist's Academy. The MY ACCOUNT link is in the upper right-hand area of the website. Within your MY ACCOUNT, a section labeled “My Content” is where the class you purchased will appear, including a link to watch the video of your Class. You’ll also receive an email confirmation after your purchase, which will include a link to view your Class. You can access your Class as many times as you wish, and you’ll never lose access to your Account information. Just be sure to “Log In” for access to MY ACCOUNT.
Do I have to take the Class right away?
No. Any Class you buy will be accessible to you always. You can view your Class whenever you want, and you can view individual Sessions in whatever order you like.
Is there a limit on the times I can view my Class?
No. Your access never expires. You can view any Class you purchase as many times as you want, whenever you want.
Can I view a Class on my tablet device or mobile phone?
No problem. Most newer-model smartphones or other mobile/tablet devices with an internet connection are able to play the Class videos. Simply Log In to Artist's Academy, and you can view any Class you’ve bought through the MY ACCOUNT section. Or, you can click on the “View Class” link within the email confirmation you’ll receive upon your purchase.
How do I get access to the Bonus Materials for the Class?
Until you purchase a Class, the Bonus material (any extra videos, download materials, etc.) will not be accessible. Once you purchase a Class, and go to view your Class, each individual Bonus element is accessible by simply clicking on each item. You’ll find the Bonus Materials directly below your main Class viewer frame. You can access the bonus materials as many times as you like and/or save them to your device.
How does the Class Q&A Resource benefit work?
Once you purchase any Class, within the Class viewing page, you’ll have access to post a question, comment or tip in the Class Discussions. This is not a “live chat,” but Artist's Academy contributors will answer posted questions and provide tips regularly. You can also view other Class participants’ questions and input to take part in this virtual dialogue among others who have taken the Class and are willing to share tips, answers, or ideas.
Can I print out Class details?
For any Bonus Material that is a PDF Download, yes you can. Just click on the icon/button for the Bonus element you want, and print with your local printer.
What are PDF downloads?
These are simply documents, plans, or written materials that are formatted in a way to print out and retain for reference. By simply clicking on the icon/link for any PDF Download that is included with a Class, you can print that document on your own printer or simply view the contents on your computer/mobile device.
Are there any system requirements to view the Class video content?
Your Class video content is best when viewed on a computer manufactured in the past couple of years with a good broadband Internet connection (not dialup). We also highly recommend using the latest version of Firefox, Safari, or Chrome as your Internet Browser, though recent versions of Internet Explorer will work as well. The recommended screen resolution is 1024 x 768 or larger.
Why do you need my email?
We need it to acknowledge your purchase of a Class, and send you a confirmation of your transaction. Also, in order to maintain your permanent access to the Class videos, you’ll need to Log In to artistsacademy.com. We guarantee that we will not share your email with any third parties. You may receive email updates from Artist's Academy from time to time, with details of new Classes and updates. You can easily unsubscribe when you receive any email.
Can I get a refund if I don’t like the Class?
Because you’ll have full access to all the materials and content that is presented in the Class immediately, we can’t offer a refund after purchase. Please review the Class Preview video and the various written descriptions of the Class and each Session before you purchase, so you have a good understanding of the Class content.
